Community Development Funding for 2009 - 2010
- Planning and Development - Bellaire Sustainable Development Planning Grant
Amount: $103,750
Status: Funding Confirmed - Spent
Plan: This grant provided a development plan and design guidelines for the Bellaire area to facilitate short-term and long-term neighborhood improvements, to improve overall neighborhood character, to increase home ownership, to provide desirable market rate housing, to improve overall safety and attractiveness of the area, and to encourage stakeholder collaboration in on-going redevelopment efforts and community building.
- Public Works - Department of Housing and Urban Development- Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
Amount: $119,363
Status: Funding Confirmed
Plan: The City of Hurst received $119,363 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The City receives CDBG funding on an annual basis. With this funding, the City seeks to provide necessary public improvements to certain low-moderate income neighborhoods.
Current Project: Re-construction of street, curb and associated utility improvements to Bellaire Drive from Pecan Street to Greenway Drive

Hurst Public Library - Loan Star Libraries
Amount: $29,294
Status: Plan of Action Approved by Library Board
Plan: The Library will apply this year’s Loan Star Libraries allotment towards the purchase of furnishings and fixtures (including tables, chairs, shelving and display units) for the designated Young Adult space identified in the Library Expansion Project estimated to begin in December 2009.

Hurst Public Library - Wal-Mart Grant
Amount: $5,000
Status: Funding Confirmed
Plan: The Library submitted a grant request to Wal-Mart for funding for the continuation of the Learning Express Library database, which offers preparation for educational tests and licensing exams, and the Jobview Kiosk, which assists the members of our community in searching for and obtaining employment. With high unemployment rates being reported by the U.S. Department of Labor, these already heavily used resources contribute to the economic health of our citizens, which directly impacts the economic well being of our entire community.
The Library currently has contracts with Learning Express Library through a consortium of North Texas Library Partners libraries and the vendor providing the Jobview Kiosk. These funds will be applied towards those invoices as they come due
Public Safety Funding for 2009 - 2010

Amount: $4,795.00
Status: Funding Confirmed
Plan: Grant will be used to purchase a Bullard Eclipse Thermal Imaging Camera. This camera is a thermal imager designed to help give “sight” to each firefighter inside a blaze. It is developed to provide firefighters navigational and search/rescue assistance.

Hurst Public Library - Loan Star Libraries Grant
Amount: $23,448
Status: Funding Confirmed; Spent
Plan: The Library submitted a Plan of Action for its 2009 Loan Star Libraries allotment to apply towards an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) System to facilitate inventory control and provide for express self check options.
The funds were used to cover the initial payment at contract signing with Envisionware to provide the RFID System, which will lead to more efficient, accurate and effective delivery of circulation services.
