Fire Safety House
The Fire Safety House was built in 1989 by members of the Hurst
Fire Department. The Fire Safety House is used during Fire Prevention
Week to let kids practice Fire Safety in the home. The Fire Safety
House is also used during the Fire Department Open House each year
in October.
The
Hurst Fire Department visits each elementary school in Hurst during
Fire Prevention Week. Shift personnel demonstrate and lecture to
over 4000 students each year about home fire safety. Each student
from kindergarten through 6th grade has the opportunity for training
and lecture on Home Fire Safety, and a guided tour inside the Fire
Safety House.
Part of the training is how to get out of a smoke filled room or
house. How to crawl low to safety, safely exit the home, and find
a safe meeting place after exiting the home. The training also covers
locations for Smoke Detectors in the home, the difference between
tools and toys, kitchen safety, and the dangers of playing with
matches, lighters and cigarettes.
The Fire Safety House is used all during the year by special request
from Civic Groups, Churches, Schools, and by other cities in the
area. This is an excellent tool for teaching kids, as well as adults,
about home fire safety.
