What should I know about using the Library's computers?
Answer:
The Hurst Public Library enforces the following as part of its Acceptable Use Policy for Public Access and Internet Computers, in addition to any of the above-mentioned Behavior Policies as they may apply to computer use:
*
Use of computers is on a first-come first-served basis. Internet computers are assigned in the Computer Center (or Youth Department for children) using the PC Reservation System. Public Access Computers (PACs) are available throught the Library that provide access to the Library Catalog, all City of Hurst websites, and our Electronic Resources Collection. The use of PACs does not require a reservation assignment.
*
Access to Internet computers is limited to sessions of up to 1 hour, with a daily limit of 2 hours for each patron. Availability of computers may vary based on demand. Session lengths of 1 hour, 30 minutes, and 15 minutes are available to relieve wait-time during high demand periods for patrons who need less time on Internet computers.
*
Use of Internet Computers requires a Hurst Public Library Card and the completion of an electronic use agreement. Persons not eligible for a Hurst Library Card may be eligible for a temporary Guest Card for Internet use. See our Circulation Policy for more details.
*
Only the holder of the valid card may use it for Internet access. The use of another person's card to utilize our Internet Computers may result in the loss of computer access privileges.
*
The Library reserves the right to limit the use of Internet Computers by patrons with outstanding books, fines, or invoices.
*
Internet computers and PACs are connected to our print services. There will be a charge per page ($.10 for black & white, $1.00 for color) for all printouts made as set by the Library Board.
*
To help maintain a studious atmosphere, no more than 2 patrons can be at any 1 computer station at a time.
*
The Library's access to the Internet is filtered for content, but please be aware that no filtering software is guaranteed to block all potentially offensive content.
*
Harassing or disturbing other patrons or engaging in disruptive or abusive behavior, misuse or abuse of the Library's hardware or software, use of unauthorized software or refusal to comply with Computer Center or Youth Services rules and procedures will result in loss of computer privileges.
